Getting Medicare enrollment correct is very important to avoid gaps in coverage. The Journal of Financial Planning has published a handy timeline which helps seniors plan for when to enroll. The Journal recommends enrolling in the three months prior to your 65th birthday to avoid any gaps in coverage. Waiting until after your 65th birthday could result in coverage delays of one month or more. Delaying too long can even result in penalties being assessed to your Part B Premium.
